Who am I?
2024-10-30 by Jonathan
Hey all, I'm Jonathan, known as Jonathan859 on most platforms. My home page already tells the basic things about me, but read on if you want to know even more.
The generic introduction stuff
I was born on May 8, 2009, in North Carolina, USA, and now live in a town in Bavaria, Germany.
At the time of writing this, I’m in the 10th grade at a Realschule (a type of secondary school) and planning to start an apprenticeship as an IT Specialist in Application Development in summer 2025.
My native language is German, and I speak fluent English. My school also tried to teach me French, but that turned out to be more of a painful mess than anything else…
Hobbys and interests
As you’ve probably guessed by now, I’m passionate about all things tech—likely in part due to my visual impairment, as I’ve been using a laptop since the 3rd grade. My favorite software includes, but isn’t limited to, AI, audio games, and similar tools. I also love experimenting with servers and exploring all kinds of software that's accessible for blind users.
I develop games and small projects myself, mainly using the Nonbisual Gaming Toolkit.
Outside of tech, I recently started playing goalball, and I’m really enjoying it. I also love singing and have been part of a choir for nearly a decade.
Why the 859
In many of the communities I'm part of, like Mastodon, TeamTalk, and various games, the name Jonathan is pretty common. To avoid confusion—and because plain "Jonathan" is usually taken on most platforms—I came up with something unique to add to my name. I'm not a fan of random nicknames, and I wouldn't call myself creative enough to come up with a catchy one, either.
I believe I first used "859" on Instagram as a shortened form of my birthday in the German dd.mm.yyyy format. To keep it simple, I dropped the "200" and extra zeros.
